EP 18 Learnings from my career break: How I knew it was time.
Thursday Sep 19, 2024
Thursday Sep 19, 2024
In October 2023 I made the difficult but necessary decision to leave my well established corporate position. Being able to do this was a huge privilege that I am grateful for. But that does not mean it was easy. The time away from what made up so much of my identity - work - forced me to confront a lot about myself and evolve along the way.
I start a new corproate job on Monday and wanted to take the time to share some of the messy middle and profound learnings in hopes that it helps even one other person navigating the ups and downs of life.

About Jess
Jess left a thriving corporate career in rare disease biotech to work toward closing systematic gaps in the workplace for women and mothers. As a mom and a woman leader in a Fortune 500, she witnessed first-hand the gap for all women and working mothers and couldn’t look away. She believes women are meant to feel empowered in their careers and lives.
She became a matrescence expert, a researcher, an accredited coach, and an advocate – all used to provide businesses with focused programs that support and advance women and moms at work. She serves as a board member for a non-profit, and resident coach-expert in "The Society of Working Moms."
Jess ignites change by bridging neuroscience education and evidence-based tools that lead to retention, re-engagement, and re-discovery.

Maya Connet joins me to catch up! We worked together years ago and since our overlap she has gone on to grow through the leadership ranks at Clari and now runs the New Business Sales and Business Development organizations at Tropic.
She shares how she's navigated her career, the 5 quantities she uses to evaluate sales candidates, the value of working with an executive coach (and some of the frameworks and coaching that has helped her most) and being a mom of 2 under 4 as she takes on an executive leadership role at a Series B tech startup.
If you are thinking about or planning on going on a leave soon or at any point in your career, this is a must listen. Maya had two promotions WHILE she was on leave. She shares her experience and how it has shaped how she supports her team in their development.
There is so much to learn and resonate within this conversation.

EP 15 Ashley Chang, On building a business aimed at giving parents TIME back
Wednesday Aug 21, 2024
Wednesday Aug 21, 2024
A healthcare/research start, tech pivot turned entrepreneur who is now on a mission to help parents own more of their most valuable asset - TIME.
Ashley joins us in lifting the cloak on her as a human.
She is so poised as she talks through her experience navigating career, hitting tough patches, pulling herself back up and making the leap into entrepreneurship-before she even knew the business she wanted to build (!!).
Spoiler alert, she went back to the basics to define the business she wanted to build by centering on the problems she cares about solving. That soul searching set her on a path to start ‘Sundays’.

Lysa and her family are a few months into a huge move from California (with a full community filled with friends and family) to Texas (as their family of 4). They are on this adventure together in support of Lysas' career when she accepted a promotion to VP, Clinical Trials.
In this episode we talk..
- What that move has been like
- Having no shame in loving work and work travel as a mom
- Being with a company for 10+ years and how she earned promotion after promotion (spoiler work: 'doing the job well was the checkmark')
- Building authentic relationships at work
- Defining your why and keeping it at the center of what you do at work and as a leader of an organization
- And you'll have to listen to hear the context around this great quote: "Everyday is different, you have to be really forgiving and realistic with yourself."
Let us know what you think after you listen!
See you again soon!

Meet Your Host
Hey! I’m Jess Green. I’m a Type-A, tech exec, mom of 2, wife of 1, daughter, friend and a deep feeling kid turned deeper feeling adult. I’m in the thick of it. I spent 10 years navigating my career in sales before my life became so much more full with the birth of my two children. My high-achieving, people pleasing, type-a personality with periodic anxiety became full blown generalized anxiety. The perception that if you try hard enough and do the ‘right’ things you can create a euphoric ‘balance’ and have it all, was slowly killing me.
Finding women at a similar stage of life that were willing to be vulnerable, share and hear the hard stuff with no judgement, changed my life. I finally felt my experience was ‘normal’ and gave myself permission to define my version of success that works for me. I stopped trying to achieve this mythical work-life balance but instead a dynamic blend of life that evolves at different stages or situations in life. I am on a mission to pay that forward by creating a safe place for working moms to celebrate, struggle, and share their experience, whatever that may look like, so we can all grow and live happier, fulfilled lives.
